San Diego’s Paul Lowe broke free for a 72 yard scamper and a score; Chargers jump out to the early lead. With 10:07 left in quarter one the home team is up 7-0. The Chargers have come out of the locker room on fire as they score again, this time it’s a 13 yard pass from Hadl to Garrison for the touchdown. Chargers are up on the Fins 14 to 0 with 7:32 to go in the 1st. The first period ends with score 14 to 0 Chargers.
The second period had been a series of punts until the last 4 minutes as the Dolphins turned a fumble by Paul Lowe into six points. Recovering the ball at the 24 of San Diego the Dolphins ran the football to paydirt with running back Sammy Price powering in from 2 yard out to close the gap to just seven points. At the half the score remains Chargers 14 dolphins 7.
Miami managed to get two field goals in the 3rd quarter drawing a little closer to the Chargers. George Wilson came into the ball game in relief for Dick Woods who had struggled most of the game throw the football. Wilson threw the Dolphins into scoring position and then Joe Auer took it in from one yard out. Miami went for the two point conversion but failed in converting. San Diego’s big full back Keith Lincoln snapped off a 65 yard touchdown run on the very next series for the Chargers so the Dolphins were back in a deep hole again. Miami picked up another field goal with 1:30 left in the game and tried an onside kick which failed leaving the Charger just a few plays to run out the clock and get win number two.
