Welcome football fans from around the world as todays game represents the first ever World Championship Professional Football Game, the first ever SUPER BOWL!

The hardened vets from Dallas Texans, the Dallas Cowboys will represent the National Football League. The fledgling Kansas City Chiefs will represent the American Football League’s high flying style of professional football this afternoon. The Chiefs from Kansas City will be in their all white uniforms as the visiting team. Dallas will be wearing their dark blue jerseys and silver pants, they are home team for todays matchup.

Kansas City has won the coin toss and has elected to receive the kickoff. Dallas’s Danny Villanueva is lined up and ready to kickoff this historic football game. The kick is high and deep, taken at the goal line by Chiefs return man Mike Garrett, returns the ball 16 yards and slammed down hard right there and we are underway here in beautiful sunny Los Angeles.

1st Quarter Action:

KC 1st and 10 from the KC 16
The Chiefs first play is a trap to the right to Mike Garrett, gain of only 3 yards as the Cowboys played that one well.

KC 2nd and 7 from the KC 19
Dawson hands off again to Garrett, got around the corner for 5 yards and that will bring up a 3rd and 2 for the Chiefs.

Len Dawson takes the snap and rolls out to the right, pulls up to throw and he’s drilled from behind by Willie Townes! SACK for a loss of -6 yards, that is Dallas’s 1st sack of the game and the Chiefs now face a 4th and 8 from the Kansas City 18 and will have to punt the football away.

Jerrel Wilson for the Chiefs is in to punt, clean snap and the punt is away, high arching kick and it will be taken at the 37 of Dallas by Mel Renfro and he will wave for a fair catch right there. And here comes Don Meredith and the Cowboys out onto the field for their first offensive series.

Don Meredith eases in under center, takes the snap and makes a quick drop, play action pass to Pete Gent, bang-bang play and the Chiefs defender got his hand in there to break it up, incomplete.

Dallas in split backs, toss sweep to Reeves going right and the Chiefs have him cornered, trying to reverse his direction and he will be tackled for a -9 yard loss! Big play for the Chiefs defense.

Dallas is forced into a passing situation early. Meredith back to pass and he has time, looking over the middle for Frank Clarke, the pass is way over the head of Clarke and was almost picked off. Dallas will have to punt on their first possession.

Danny Villanueva is ready for the snap, perfect and the punt is away and Villanueva is buried under two or three Chief defenders, and here comes the flags, roughing the kicker is the call and that’s a 15 yard penalty and an automatic first down for the Cowboys.

Meredith back under center, long count, dive straight ahead to Don Perkins and he breaks free into the second level for a 14 yard gain!

Another pass by Dallas and Meredith has a solid pocket to throw from, slings it to Buddy Dial on a check down pass for just 2 yards. Late flag came flying in, lets see what the call is, face mask is called on Kansas City and that’s another big 15 yarder on the Chiefs. Dallas gets its second first down on this drive by way of a big penalty.

With 9:52 left in the first quarter the Cowboys are on the move albeit, aided by the Chiefs two big penalties. Kansas City is showing blitz, Meredith gets the snap and the Chiefs are charging hard! Draw play by Dallas to Perkins and Perkins slips past the rush and gains 18 yards to the Kansas City 8.

I formation for the Cowboys, Dan Reeves gets the call with Don Perkins blocking and they blow into the endzone, OH NO Reeves fumbled to ball, big pile up on the ball. Hold on the officials are signaling touchdown as Reeves had already crossed the goal line. Dallas draws first blood and the extra point is good, Cowboys 7 Chiefs 0 with 8:37 left in the first period of play.

Dallas’s kickoff sails to the goal line once again and this time it’s Emmitt Thomas on the return. Breaks the return out to right sideline, little room there so he comes back inside and he is finally tackled at the 35 of Kansas City, nice 35 yard return by Thomas.

Len Dawson and the Chiefs find themselves in unfamiliar territory being behind early in the ball game. Mike Garrett for just 2 yards off tackle. The Cowboys are one of the hardest teams in the NFL to run on.

Dawson will throw, he’s looking at Otis Taylor and he lets it fly to the 45 of Dallas and Taylor hauls it in and is tackled right there. We have a flag back at the line of scrimmage, the officials are signaling a personal foul against Kansas, one of their lineman got in a pushing match and lost.

The Chiefs are playing a pretty slobby game here in the first period. Dawson back to pass, going to Taylor again on the same route and he’s got him again! Gain of 25 yards for the Chiefs and just like that Kansas City is in Dallas territory.

Don Meredith takes his drop, he throws into double coverage and Bob Hayes comes away with it, it’s a foot race and he will win it! Rookie Walt Garrison is back in the game and his impact is immediate as he takes a pitch from Meredith for a 21 yard scamper. Garrison has really damaged the Chiefs run defense today gaining 83 yards so far on 11 touches and 2 touchdowns, amazing afternoon so far for the Rookie.
